Professor: Folder Management (New Top Hat)

Placing your Top Hat course content into folders allows you to easily organize your content by lecture, chapter, subject matter, or any other relevant category. This allows you to quickly locate and retrieve your content when you need it!

Creating New Folders
When you upload a slide presentation into Top Hat it will automatically create a folder for you containing each of your slides. You'll also likely want to create fresh folders however. To create a folder, click on the blue Create button in the upper left hand corner of your screen. A pop-up menu will appear and you’ll simply want to select Folder.


Give your folder a title and your newly created folder will appear at the bottom of your course dashboard, ready for you to add content!

Moving Content: Drag and Drop
You can quickly and easily add content to your folder by dragging it and dropping it atop your folder and a dashed line will indicate for you which folder you’re about to release your content into.

Moving Content: Multiple Items at Once
You can also batch move multiple items at the same time. Simply place a checkmark in the box to the left of each of the items you'd like to move and then click where it says Move.

From the list provided, select the folder you'd like to place these items into and then click Move here in the bottom right corner. 

The moved items will appear at the bottom of your selected folder and you can drag and drop them to reorder or redistribute them if you'd like. 

Please note that you cannot use the move feature to move items into your slides yet, but we're working on it!

Renaming Folders
To rename a folder, simply click on the folder to reveal its details in the preview pane and select Edit in the upper right hand corner. 

Assigning Folders
To assign a folder to allow student access simply click on the folder title to reveal the folder details in your preview pane on the right hand side of your screen. 

In the upper right hand corner simply click where it says Assign and you will be provided with the dropdown menu in which to select whether you'd like to make the folder available to your students as homework or review.

If the folder contains any questions, discussions, or pages it will be especially important for you to choose the most relevant status for your folder. Assigning the folder in homework status will allow your students to review the slides and receive credit for answering questions, submitting responses to discussions, and actively engaging with pages content. Assigning the folder in review status will allow your students to review the slides and review questions, discussions, and pages content without receiving any credit.

If the folder contains only a slide deck the selected status is less important, but we recommend selecting the review status.
