Professor: Embedding Videos in Questions or Discussions (New Top Hat)

Embedding YouTube and Vimeo videos in Top Hat questions or discussions is a great option if your question is pertaining to content contained within a video. This is also a great option if you simply have a video you’d like to view with your students in class. Whatever the purpose, the process is the same!

Embedding YouTube Videos
In order to include a YouTube video within your question or discussion simply copy the code that appears after v= in the URL address of the YouTube clip and paste it in square brackets after the word youtube in the question or discussion.

For example, if the URL address was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5jw3T3Jy70, what you’d include in your Top Hat question or discussion is: youtube[t5jw3T3Jy70]

When the question or discussion is activated, the YouTube video will be embedded directly within your Top Hat item.

To play the video in class click on the play button in the middle of the video. You can also have the video play full screen my clicking on the full screen button in the bottom right of the playing video.

When you're finished with the video, simply press the esc key on your keyboard to return to your Top Hat question or discussion and continue with your lecture!

At any point when the question or discussion is available for students (ie. activated in class or assigned as homework or review), the video will also be accessible to them on their devices.

Embedding Vimeo Videos
In order to include a Vimeo video within your question or discussion simply copy the code that appears after the primary URL address of the Vimeo clip and paste it in square brackets after the word vimeo in the question or discussion.

For example, if the URL address was https://vimeo.com/17439081, what you’d include in your Top Hat question or discussion is: vimeo[17439081]

When the question or discussion is activated, the Vimeo video will be embedded directly within your Top Hat item.

To play the video in class click on the play button in the bottom left of the video.
