Professor: Embedding Questions or Discussions into your Slide Presentation (New Top Hat)
Top Hat’s intuitive new interface allows you to actually embed your Top Hat questions and discussions directly within your slide presentations for a seamlessly integrated lecture!
Uploading your Slide Presentation
You’ll want to start by uploading your still/static PowerPoint or PDF slide deck into Top Hat. To do this, simply click the blue Create button on the left side of your screen, and from there select the Upload Slides option. This will provide for you with the file upload framework in which you can click the blue Browse your computer button and select a document from your computer’s hard drive.
Creating your Question or Discussion
Next you need the questions or discussions in which to embed into your slide presentation! To do this, simply click on the blue Create button on the left side of your screen, and from there select the question style or discussion you’d like to create. From there you will be provided w/ the building framework in which to construct your question discussion. (For a more detailed explanation of how to create each of the various question styles or discussions please search for the question style or discussion in the search field above.) Once complete, your newly created question will appear at the bottom of your course dashboard ready for you to embed in your slide presentation!
Embedding your Question or Discussion in your Slide Presentation
Once you have your slide presentation and your question or discussion, the last step is to bring them together! You’ll first want to click on the folder containing your presentation to reveal the slide deck and then all you have to do is drag your question or discussion from its original location and drop it between the slides of your choosing. A grey bar will even indicate for you where you’re about to release your question or discussion.
Alternatively, if you’re simply dropping the content item into a folder, a dashed line will indicate for you which folder you’re about to release your content into. It really is that easy!
Previewing your Presentation
Want to do a dry-run of your lecture before heading into the classroom? Simply click on a slide, question, or discussion from your presentation to preview it. If you’re not happy with where you placed your question or discussion, not to worry, you can drag and drop it somewhere else and see if that creates a better lecture flow for you!
