Professor: Formatting Toolbar in Pages

Top Hat's formatting toolbar within the pages editor will allow you create interactive texts that are not only incredibly functional, but also pleasing to the eye! Highlighting a section of text will reveal the text formatting toolbar and from there you can apply any of the following formatting attributes. Clicking the icon once will apply the formatting and indicate this by displaying the icon in blue. Clicking the blue icon will remove the formatting and return the text to a normal state.

Bolding and Italicizing

Creating Titles and Headings
There are 3 levels of header text: H1 (largest), H2 and H3 (smallest). Headings have their own intrinsic formatting preventing you from applying bold or italicized formatting.

Font Colour

Superscripting and Subscripting
Clicking the subscript/superscript icon once will apply superscript formatting to your selected text, clicking it again will apply subscript, and clicking it one last time will turn the formatting off all together.

Creating Quotes
The selected text will be indented with a vertical line to its left.

Creating Lists

Inserting Links

  • Internal Links (section)

Selecting the section linking option will allow you to link the highlighted text to a heading (H1, H2, H3) tag elsewhere in the page. This is useful when referring to text elsewhere in the same page. Clicking on the grey triangle will display a list of all the headers you have in your page. Remember to save regularly as newly made headers won't show up on this list until after a save! Simply pick the one you'd like to link to and click on the checkmark to set the link. When a reader clicks the link, it will take them to that section of the page.

  • External Links (website)

Selecting the website linking option will allow you to link the highlighted text to an entirely separate web page. Simply paste the URL address into the provided field and then click on the checkmark icon to set it. When a reader clicks the link, it will open the web page in a new tab.

Inline Symbol Selector
To trigger the inline symbol selector simply place your cursor where you'd like to place the symbol and a small blue + icon will appear. Clicking on this icon will reveal the symbol selector menu where you can select your category and symbol to insert into your text.
