Professor: Loading, Presenting, and Sharing Your Slides (Old Top Hat)

Want to seamlessly integrate your in-class presentation with Top Hat?

Top Hat’s Files Module allows you to upload your saved files to Top Hat and share them with your students. If you're in class, you can use the Files Module to present your still/static PowerPoint or PDF presentations. After class you can make images, documents, videos, PowerPoint presentations, video files and audio files available for your students to download.

Uploading and Presenting Files 

 

Uploading Files to the Course

Just like other modules, click on the 'Create' icon to start uploading the file. This will bring up the Add File menu displayed here:

Click on the Upload button and navigate your computer to find your file. You can give your Top Hat file a custom name that will override the original file name, as well as a detailed description of what the file contains. Once done, click Ok to save your changes. 

Note: for PowerPoint files, you will need to ensure your file has been saved with a .ppt or .pptx file extension.

 

Presenting Files

To present your slides to your students in class, click on the status menu drop down and select the Present status.

Your slides will now populate your screen and you can choose to magnify them and expand them to full screen.

Students who are logged into your course using the Top Hat web browser or mobile applications on their devices will also have the slides populate their screen and they'll be able to follow along in real time. 

 

Allowing Students to Download Files

If you'd like to share images, documents, PowerPoint presentations, video files, or audio files with your students, simply click on the status menu drop down and select the Review status.

Your slides will now be available for your students to review and download to their local computer if they so choose.

    Are students able to download a presentation during the classroom presentation (when "Present" is activated) or just when the file is chosen as "Review"?

    Thanks for reaching out to us! Students can't download presentations or files that are in 'Present' mode - they can only see the presentation up to the slide that the professor is on. The 'Download' button is only available to students when a file is in 'Review' mode.
