Student: Offline Mode Submissions

Top Hat’s Offline Mode has been designed to ensure students using the latest versions of our iOS or Android apps can make submissions even if they’re experiencing weak reception in class, exceed their data limit, or lose WiFi connectivity all together.

How it Works
Top Hat’s Offline Mode has been built into our most recent iOS and Android apps and will allow you to make your submission even if you don’t have an internet connection! If the app identifies an issue with your connection it will prompt you to submit by way of Offline Mode. Submissions made using Offline Mode will be time stamped and stored locally on your phone until a stable connection is detected. The next time you open your Top Hat app when a stable network connection is available your submissions can be sent to your professor’s Top Hat course. If the timestamp on your submission falls within the timeframe in which your professor had the question, discussion, or attendance session active, then you will be awarded the appropriate points for that item and your grades will be updated automatically.

iOS Version 5.0 and newer Offline Mode
If your iOS app identifies an issue with your internet connection it will prompt you to submit byway of Offline Mode.

You can also manually access the offline mode by clicking on the Offline Mode tab from the tab bar at anytime.

Turning on Offline Mode will provide for you a simple form prompting you for the 4 digit text/SMS code and your answer. The 4-digit text/SMS code will be accessible for you on your professor’s projected screen. The answer field is only required when submitting offline to questions and discussions, this answer field isn’t necessary if you’re submitting the attendance code.
